Tygerberg City Choir
Highlights (July–Dec 2025)
The Tygerberg City Choir spent the second half of 2025 bringing people together through song. After each concert the choir expressed how “filled with gratitude” they were for the warm audiences in attendance. From joyful summer gala performances to heartfelt community fundraisers, these months were a celebration of unity, artistry, and shared purpose. Each concert was a reminder that song can “build connections” and give everyone “strength, connection, and joy,” especially when friends and neighbors raise their voices in harmony.
Summer Gala Concerts: “As Long as I Have Music…” (Aug 2025)
In August, the choir presented two Gala Concerts under the theme “As Long as I Have Music…”, on Aug 3 in Parow North and on August 17 in Strand. These evenings brought full church-hall audiences together with uplifting repertoire. The choir described the concerts as “moments of celebration, artistry, and unity” – thanking everyone for filling the venues with energy and applause. Members noted that music had given “strength, connection, and joy” to both singers and listeners, a power made “even more powerful” by the community’s enthusiastic support. Audiences and choir members alike left the summer gala feeling inspired: the choir affirmed that sharing these concerts with the community truly lives up to the spirit of their theme.
Community Outreach Concert: Choir Cares for the Community (Sep 2025)
On Sunday, 14 September, the choir gave a community benefit concert at NG Moederkerk in Kuilsriver. The “Tygerberg City Choir Cares for the Community” program was in aid of the local AFM Care Village (a seniors’ care home). The afternoon was described as “an unforgettable afternoon — filled with music, joy, and above all, the spirit of giving”. A varied program of choral pieces showcased how music can uplift and unite people. Choir leaders extended heartfelt thanks to all who attended; they noted that every ticket and donation would directly benefit the seniors at AFM Care Village. As one choir report reflected, seeing the audience “engage with every note” reinforced the belief that music truly “uplifts, unites, and inspires”. Together, singers and supporters proved that community coming together through song can make a “lasting difference in the lives of others”.
Choral Fundraiser at URCSA Rondebosch (Oct 2025)
On 19 October, the choir joined a fundraising concert at URCSA Rondebosch (Gleemoor, Athlone). This “Choral Afternoon” brought together youth orchestra Muzukidz and talented soloists to raise money for a new sound system at the church. The event was more than just a concert – as the choir noted, it was “a celebration of community spirit and the power of music to bring people together”. The packed audience enjoyed a vibrant program: young string players in Muzukidz filled the hall with promise and grace, and soloists Deepika Cerpath, Lize Smith and Christelle de Vries delivered “captivating solos”. Every R50 ticket felt priceless – as one report put it, each ticket represented not only a seat but also “a contribution to the continued growth and quality of our worship and music ministry”. Choir members thanked everyone for coming, grateful that voices of all ages had united to support both the arts and the church community.
Looking Ahead: Festive Season (Dec 2025)
As the year drew to a close, the choir turned toward its beloved holiday concerts. The group notes that “every December, as the city lights up and festive melodies fill the air, [they] begin the heartwarming process of preparing for one of the most anticipated events of the year — our annual festive concerts”. In the weeks leading up to the holidays, rehearsals intensify: the conductor and choir leaders carefully select a mix of traditional carols, classical pieces and new arrangements to reflect the season’s message of joy and unity. Guest musicians and soloists are invited to collaborate, adding even richer textures to the sound. For the Tygerberg City Choir, each festive performance is more than just a show – it is “a celebration of community, dedication, and the enduring power of song.” With the choir’s dedication and the community’s ongoing support, this year’s holiday concerts are sure to share warmth and inspiration as the choir’s 2025 journey of song comes to a joyful close.
