Tygerberg City Choir History
Sanlam Koor
The choir was established in 1973 as a choir for Sanlam personnel in Bellville. The name of the choir was Sanlam Choir. Around 1977, this choir was terminated due to a lack of male voices.
A new choir was formed; it was still called the Sanlam Choir, as Sanlam was the sponsor. At the end of 1985, Sanlam withdrew its sponsorship.
Stadskoor – Civic Choir Bellville
The Bellville City Council was approached for a sponsorship, and as a result, the name of the choir changed to Bellville City Choir in 1986.
Stadskoor Tygerberg City Choir
The northern suburbs of Cape Town were grouped under the name City of Tygerberg. The sponsorship stayed in place, and for that reason, the name of the choir changed to Tygerberg City Choir.
Our Choir Directors
The first choir director was Pieter van der Westhuizen, followed by Edward Aitchison, Louis van der Watt, Rudolph de Beer, and Linda Claasen. Since May 2019, the choir leader has been Peter Roux.
